The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) of the automobile aftermarket was created by Roy Richter, Ed Iskenderian, Dean Moon,Willie Garner, Vic Edelbrock, John Bartlett, Phil Weiand, Jr., Al Segal, and JrBob Hedman in 1963. It now consists of over 6,466 companies worldwide, bringing the aftermarket manufacturers together with the original equipment manufacturers.

This $31 billion-a-year industry has prudcts that include handling equipment, cosmetic accessories, and drivetrain parts. The industry covers muscle cars, sport compacts, classics, light trucks, street rods, and recreational vehicles. The largest of the SEMA events held is the SEMA Show which is usually held in late October or early November in Las Vegas, Nevada. This SEMA event is in conjunction with the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week. As a part of this event, SEMA and other automotive aftermarket trade groups make-up the largest event on the Las Vegas calendar.
